How to Install Your Kiteboard Handle
A simple step-by-step guide to mounting the Trap Handle on your kiteboard. No drilling, no special tools — just 5 minutes and you're ready to ride.
Before You Start
Every Trap Handle ships with everything you need: the handle itself, two 18mm M6 stainless steel screws, and a TPU spacer. No extra hardware, no drilling, no modifications to your board.
Handle Sizes by Board Brand
Use the table below to find the right handle size for your kiteboard. If your brand isn't listed, measure the insert hole spacing on the bottom of your board.
| Board Brand | Insert Spacing |
|---|---|
| Slingshot | 16 cm |
| North (2020+) / Cabrinha | 17 cm |
| Duotone / Lieuwe / North (pre-2020) | 18 cm |
| Reedin / Axis / Eleveight / Core / Carved / Flysurfer | 20 cm |
| Naish | 21.5 cm |
Installation Steps
Installation takes about 5 minutes. Here's everything you need to do.
Step 1: Clean the Insert Area
Wipe down the area around the insert holes on the bottom of your board. Remove any sand, wax, or debris so the handle sits flush and the spacer seals properly.
Step 2: Place the TPU Spacer
Place the included TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) spacer between the handle base and your board. This prevents scratches on your board's surface and adds a small amount of flex that absorbs vibration while riding.
Step 3: Screw In the Handle
Align the handle legs with the insert holes on your board. Thread the 18mm M6 panhead Phillips screws through the handle legs, through the spacer, and into the board inserts. Hand-tighten first, then snug with a Phillips screwdriver. Don't over-torque — snug is enough. If you ever lose a screw, 18mm M6 panhead screws are available at any hardware store.
Step 4: Test the Fit
Grab the handle and give it a firm pull and twist. It should feel solid with no wobble. Try a practice grab from a riding stance to make sure it's comfortable. If it feels loose, tighten the screws another quarter turn.
Installation Tips
- Apply a tiny drop of thread-locker (Loctite Blue) to the screws if you ride in heavy conditions. This prevents them from vibrating loose.
- The handle is made from ASA plastic which is UV-resistant and saltwater-proof. No maintenance needed — just rinse with fresh water after ocean sessions.
